2022-12-24 | Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

2022-12-17 | A Hollywood High

On Sunday December 18 fans around the world will be able to experience the band’s exclusive rooftop show, taped in Los Angeles, alongside previously unseen archival footage and bonus interviews from the comfort of their home via a simple yet premium, high definition viewing experience through Veeps.com or the Veeps app on Apple TV, Roku, iOS, and Android until January 2, 2023. (duranduran.veeps.com)

2022-12-16 | This Christmas Time

This Christmas Time features a number of rock legends, singers, actors, Founder Prof. Sir Chris Evans and Ambassador, Nina Lopes!
Ozzy Osbourne narrates a moving introduction to open the new track and Noddy Holder ends the song wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
The song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and features guitarist Andy Taylor, of Duran Duran, who recently revealed his own battle with cancer, drummer Nick Mason, of Pink Floyd, lead vocalist Casi Wyn, Nick Lloyd Webber on piano, Polly Wiltshire on viola and singer Reebz on vocal harmonies. Actress and singer Samantha Womack, who has also recently shared her cancer journey, provides backing vocals, as does first time singer Nina Lopes, an Ambassador for The Cancer Awareness Trust. The song was produced and mixed by Matt Bond who also played bass guitar and Prof. Sir Chris Evans who also played guitar. (thecancerplatform.com)

2022-12-15 | New Year's Eve

Duran Duran will be ringing in 2023 in New York’s Times Square. The band is set to perform live on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2023.
The new Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have been tapped to play a medley of their classic hits just before midnight, ahead of the ball drop. Other artists performing in Times Square include New Edition, BTS’s J-Hope and Jax. (wdrv.com)

2022-12-14 | Adam Lambert

Pop-rock superstar Adam Lambert knows his way around a good cover. And on Tuesday (Dec. 13), the singer continued the trend with his latest ode to some ’80s rock icons. Lambert unveiled his cover of Duran Duran‘s 1993 hit single “Ordinary World,” in which the American Idol alum slows the track down to create am almost eerie version of the grief-stricken original track. Backed up by a smooth piano and some orchestral strings, Lambert carefully croons out the aching lyrics of the track, never going as far as emulating Simon Le Bon’s signature vocal, but paying homage all the same. 2022-11-05 | A note from Andy Taylor

Andy Taylor, who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Duran Duran tonight in Los Angeles, was not able to attend the ceremonies due to illness. The band acknowledged his absence by reading portions of a letter that he drafted to commemorate the occasion.
Please find Andy's entire letter below.

Dear Simon, John, Roger, Nick, my fellow inductees and countrymen
I wanted to send a personal note to pass along my sincerest respect to you all for what’s been an amazing career, and to also share what has happened to me.
Firstly, can I say what an absolute honour it was to be nominated let alone be inducted into the RRHOF. There’s nothing that comes close to such recognition. I’m proud of everything we’ve achieved together and of the way you have continued. As a guitar player in a progressive band from the synth days of the early eighties, literally from the day I met Nick, John, Simon and Roger they truly valued the contribution of a rather noisy, versatile Northern brat. We all grew up on the same vinyl records and live gigs, from David Bowie to Roxy Music, The Sex Pistols and of course CHIC. I could go to all those places as a player and developed a hybrid guitar style that fitted this amazing concept OF A BAND…
I loved going into the studio and recording our material; nobody else sounded like us. We were ripe to absorb what was the art of analogue recording, but with some different kit, Nick's artful obsession with synth technology was something I'd never seen before and I was introduced to layers. Because we were instinctively the right fit, we evolved very quickly, writing RIO as our second album with the confidence our very early success with 'Girls On Film' and 'Planet Earth' inspired.
You can dream about what happened to us but to experience it, on one's own terms, as mates, was beyond incredible.

I would like to thank each of my brothers in this great band.
My family: my incredibly sane wife of 40 years - Tracey - my amazing children, Andy, Georgie, Bethy and Izzy, not forgetting my grandson Albie, who's probably online listening or on Fortnite!!!
The original believers: Paul and Michael Berrow, Dave Ambrose, Terry Slater, Rob Hallett.
The Producers: Colin Thurston, Alex Sadkin, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers - I've also really dug the work with Mark Ronson - I particularly admire 'All You Need Is Now’, that's a DD melody if ever I heard one.
Thanks also to Merck, Andrew and Wendy.

Now for the bad blood, well the good news is that there is none, just pure love and respect for everything we wrote, recorded and achieved together. What's the point? There's no stopping this 44-year thing called "Duran Duran”.

Now to the reason I'm not here:
Just over 4-years ago I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Many families have experienced the slow burn of this disease and of course we are no different; so I speak from the perspective of a family-man but with profound humility to the band, the greatest fans a group could have and this exceptional accolade.
I have the Rodgers and Edwards of doctors and medical treatment that until very recently allowed me to just rock on. Although my current condition is not immediately life threatening there is no cure. Recently I was doing okay after some very sophisticated life extending treatment, that was until a week or so ago when I suffered a setback, and despite the exceptional efforts of my team, I had to be honest in that both physically and mentally, I would be pushing my boundaries.
However, none of this needs to or should detract from what this band (with or without me) has achieved and sustained for 44 years. We've had a privileged life, we were a bit naughty but really nice, a bit shirty but very well dressed, a bit full of ourselves, because we had a lot to give, but as I’ve said many times, when you feel that collective, instinctive, kindred spirit of creativity mixed with ambition, armed with an über cool bunch of fans, well what could possibly go wrong?
I'm truly sorry and massively disappointed I couldn’t make it. Let there be no doubt I was stoked about the whole thing, even bought a new guitar with the essential whammy!
I'm so very proud of these four brothers; I'm amazed at their durability, and I'm overjoyed at accepting this award. I often doubted the day would come. I'm sure as hell glad I'm around to see the day.

All My Love

2022-08-10 | Appreciation Day

Hello all, it's Simon, your front man from Duran Duran.
It has been an incredible year (August-August) for the band . Landmarks include the release of FUTURE PAST and all the attendant successes: Our induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; our participation at the Jubilee concert for the Queen; our incredible show at BST Hyde Park in London; being invited to perform at the opening ceremony at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham; and the video of the song TONIGHT UNITED, filmed at a special concert we did on the rooftop of the Aster in Hollywood, CA. This track is part of “A Hollywood High, Duran Duran Live in Concert,” which will be released in cinemas in November, 2022.
All of these things make us feel much more important than we really are, but that's OK, it's an occupational hazard in this business.
Here's wishing you all a great August 10 and for us, it's great to be appreciated. Thank you. (Info dd.com).

2022-05-10 | RIO 40

Rio — which celebrates its 40th anniversary this week, just days after Duran Duran celebrated their long-overdue induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — was never about style over substance. The album, impeccably produced by Bowie/Iggy engineer Colin Thurston, still holds up, from the primal pop of the jungle-love breakthrough single “Hungry Like the Wolf,” to the wistful, whistling one-night-stand ballad “Save a Prayer,” to the harrowing, noir-ish, David Lynch-approved outro “The Chauffeur.”

“Obviously with every new album we make, we always have to believe in it and feel we’ve gone in the right direction. But when we finished the Rio album, I looked around and I knew we’d done something special,” recalls Duran Duran keyboardist and co-founder Nick Rhodes. “I didn’t know what on earth would happen to it, whether it would be a hit or a flop or whatever, but I knew when I was listening to it: ‘Yep, this has got really strong songs on it, and this one just feels right.’”

For bubblegum-card-carrying members of the original MTV generation, Rio will forever be inextricably linked with sherbet-colored music video scenes of sexy yachting adventures and champagne-fueled, grownup good times. Despite being from the gray and decidedly unexotic West Midlands city of Birmingham, England, with Rio, Duran Duran were selling a jet-setting, island-hopping fantasy.

Rio Rio Rio Rio

“I think it was just the times, really,” Taylor tells Yahoo. “We took a lot of criticism for that aspirational aspect. This was in the wake of the punk-rock thing, and Thatcher. But from a creative point of view, we would have to go in a different direction — we couldn’t go down the road the Sex Pistols had been down, or the Clash had been down. We had to find our own mood and our own lane.

“I suppose we were criticized for selling people a dream. I remember when Heaven 17 put out their album The Luxury Gap, [critics] said, ‘Well, a luxury gap — that’s what Duran Duran sell, this fantasy to people who can’t afford it!’ But I never really thought about it like that,” Taylor continues. “To me, I liked music and art when there was something a little untouchable about it, something exotic, something erotic. I think those are the kinds of artists that I’ve been drawn to, that we’ve been drawn to. We were naturally going to do that.”

“I really don’t think I would have done anything different, in any way,” Taylor insists. “I don’t regret it at all. I mean, I don’t know how we would have developed as musicians if that had never been a part of our story, but I do know that that thing we had gave us power, and it enabled us to work in the way in which we wanted to work. I mean, if we hadn’t had the teenage girl fans, then we might have had no career past the mid-’80s, you know?”

Part of Rio’s appeal for female fans was undoubtedly its pro-woman imagery. Along with the above-mentioned Nagel cover, the band’s bold music video castings — the sassy Bond heroine who captured Roger in a fishing net in “Rio,” the tigress who tussled with Le Bon in “Hungry Like the Wolf” — always depicted strong, self-assured women, almost like Nagel ladies sprung to life. This was a welcome contrast from the usual video vixens that starred other exploitative clips of the era. “No, the women were manipulating us! You know, in ‘Rio’ or ‘Hungry Like the Wolf,’ we’re chasing them. They’re the ones with the power. They’re on the pedestal — as it should be,” grins Taylor.

“I think we were lucky to have connected with [director] Russell Mulcahy, and I think Russell was very cinematic in his vision,” says Taylor. “He’d be looking at Apocalypse Now, at Raiders of the Lost Ark, and he was like, ‘Yeah, I can do that. We can do that with your three-minute epics. How much can we get out of these things? Let’s get out of the studio. We’re going to make these mini-blockbuster videos that take people to another place, a place they’ve never been to, and it’s going to be exotic and dangerous and sexy.’”

“I am very grateful that our timing — our accidental timing — with the advent of music video was so fortuitous,” says Rhodes. “If we’d been five years later, I think the exciting bit was already over; if we’d been five years earlier, we would have been usurped by newer, younger bands. It just happened that we were at the right place at the right time.” (Info: yahoo.com)

2022-05-04 | Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Today, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame announced that Duran Duran will be inducted this fall, joining a long list of ground-breaking global icons before them. The 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is to take place on November 5 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Frontman Simon Le Bon said: “Here in the wild, beautiful world of Duran Duran, I think we're all in a little bit of a daze about this. It's one thing to be nominated - but a totally different thing altogether to be actually voted up for induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which is to my mind the closest thing you'll ever get to a rock & roll knighthood. This truly is a special and most valued kind of recognition for our lifetime's dedication to new music.
We owe a great debt of gratitude to all our fans, and everybody else who kept us in the number one slot for almost the entire duration of the RockHall 2022 Public Vote. We are humbled and truly elated by the depth of your support, and wish to share this momentous day for Duran Duran with all of you.”

Bassist John Taylor added: “It’s quite an honor for Duran Duran to be elected into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and not one we ever expected. We have never thought of ourselves as a Rock n’ Roll band, more of an 'ongoing Art Project', however, I feel a profound sense of gratitude for the acknowledgement this award represents.
We are thrilled to see some of our contemporaries joining us this year, Annie and Dave in particular, and would like to thank each and every one of you who took the time to register and vote for us. The overwhelming support that allowed us to win the people’s vote has been incredible. We look forward to performing at the Gala in Los Angeles!” (Info: dd.com)

2022-03-20 | Private rooftop concert in Hollywood

During a private rooftop concert in Hollywood this week, Duran Duran lit up the Capitol Records building in blue and yellow – the colours of the Ukrainian flag – and dedicated their 1992 song ‘Ordinary World’ to the people of Ukraine.
The band performed to an intimate crowd of 250 – mostly friends, family and industry professionals – on the rooftop of the Aster nightclub on Thursday (March 17). Capitol Tower is in clear eyeshot of the Aster, and with Duran Duran having previously been signed to Capitol Records, it made a perfect backdrop for their message of solidarity with Ukraine.
In a statement shared alongside a clip of the performance, bassist John Taylor said: “We are appealing to our fans in Russia to have an open heart and to support peace. We are all hoping you can get back to an ‘Ordinary World’.” More info nme.com.

2022-03-18 | The Late Late Show

Duran Duran brought their upbeat new song “Tonight United” to the Late Late Show with James Corden. “This song is about the world coming together over music,” said Simon Le Bon as Nick Rhodes, wearing a conspicuous blue-and-yellow suit in honor of Ukraine, ramped up the synths.
The new song, from the band’s new album Future Past, is a reminder of how good these New Wave stalwarts are at updating their sound without letting go of the dance-pop energy we love them for.

    2022-01-03 | Interview

John Taylor can smile the smile of someone who’s satisfied with what he did get. The Duran Duran bass player is reflecting upon the decision to record the band’s superb 15th album, FUTURE PAST with a man better known for rocking the turntables than riding the faders. The roll call of collaborators on FUTURE PAST also includes an indie guitar hero, an Italian disco composer, a legendary Bowie sideman and an entity which doesn’t actually exist (we’ll get to that). The most significant, however, is the long-haired Londoner joining John for a chat... More on dd.com
